چکیده

The aim of this investigation was to determine the efficacy of chalcopyrite bioleaching using pure cultures of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans or Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans and a mixed culture composed of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans. The experiments were carried out in shake flasks with [Fe] 4 gL 1 and S 1 gL 1 at pH 1.80, 130 rpm and 30 C. Inocula of both iron-oxidizing bacteria were obtained from cultures with Fe as the sole energy source, whereas Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans inoculum was taken from a culture growing on sulphur. Tests showed that the copper extraction in a mixed culture of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans was higher than in pure cultures. On the other hand, an important potential of Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans to leaching chalcopyrite was indicated. It can prevent jarosites accumulation on the substrate and allow further copper solubilization through the action of ferric ion. The selection of the suitable pH during the bioleaching processes would be important. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Characterization of apparent sulfur oxidation activity of thermophilic archaea in bioleaching of chalcopyrite

The apparent sulfur oxidation activities of four pure thermophilic archaea, Acidianus brierleyi (JCM 8954), Metallosphaera sedula (YN 23), Acidianus manzaensis (YN 25) and Sulfolobus metallicus (YN 24) and their mixture in bioleaching chalcopyrite were compared, which were characterized indirectly by the evolution of the cells concentration, pH value and sulfate ions concentration in solution. ...

Co-Bioleaching of Chalcopyrite and Silver-Bearing Bornite in a Mixed Moderately Thermophilic Culture

Abstract: Chalcopyrite and bornite are two important copper minerals, and they often coexist. In this study, the co-bioleaching of chalcopyrite and silver-bearing bornite by mixed moderately thermophilic culture at 50 ◦C was investigated. The bioleaching results show that the extraction percentage of Cu for co-bioleaching of chalcopyrite (Ccp) and silver-bearing bornite (Bn) (Ccp/Bn = 3:1) was ...

Mixed moderate thermophilic bioleaching of Cu, Mo and Re from molybdenite concentrate: effects of silver ion, medium and energy sources

This study evaluates the effects of different additives such as silver ion, medium and energy sources on the efficiency of mixed moderate thermophilic bioleaching approach to extract Cu, Mo and Re from molybdenite concentrate containing 0.98% Cu, 1.56% Fe, 53.84% Mo, and 0.055% Re. Molybdenite was the major phase of Mo-bearing mineral and chalcopyrite, covellite and pyrite were distinguished as...

Comparison of Copper Dissolution in Chalcopyrite Concentrate Bioleaching with Acidianus Brierleyi in Different Initial pH Values

Although bioleaching of chalcopyrite by thermophilic microorganisms enhances the rate of copper recovery, a high temperature accelerates iron precipitation as jarosite, which can bring many operational problems in the industrial processes. In this research work, the bioleaching of chalcopyrite concentrate by the thermophilic Acidianus brierleyi was studied, and the microbial grow...

A novel and highly efficient system for chalcopyrite bioleaching by mixed strains of Acidithiobacillus.

An integrated bioleaching system (stable pH-silver ion-chloride ion) was firstly proposed to for improving the efficiency of chalcopyrite bioleaching by mixed strains of Acidithiobacillus. The individual effects of stable pH, silver ion, and chloride ion on bioleaching were respectively studied. The highest copper ion concentrations in each system were 45.8, 50.2, and 45.2 mg/l, respectively, w...
